Shine a light this Tuesday

Good morning Year One

Warm up - Joe Wicks at 9 am

Nursing leaders are asking us to ‘shine a light’ in our windows for International Nurses Day on Tuesday (12 May)
The day also marks on the 200th anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale, who founded modern nursing and pioneered infection control, but is also famous for her lamp.
This drawing portrays Florence Nightingale in a hospital ward ...
You can draw your own picture of a nurse and put it in your window.
Activity 1
To practice our common exception/tricky words 3.  Click on the link below and then click on spelling tiles.

Activity 2
To warm up first with the doubles song.  Click on the link below.

Also we are going to practice buying items with different value coins. See link below.

Activity 3
Science investigation
This skittles experiment is easy, low cost and provides lots of investigative opportunities. Try using different temperatures of water, white vinegar or even lemonade to discover what happens.
COLOURFUL SKITTLES EXPERIMENT
WHAT YOU NEED:
A plate or container – preferably white
Skittles, other coated sweets work to Water
INSTRUCTIONS
Place your skittles or sweets into a white container, try to alternate the colours.
Carefully pour water into the container, if the skittles move, just push them back into place quickly.
Watch what happens.
Skittles Experiment
WHY DO THE COLOURS SPREAD?
Skittles are coated in food colouring and sugar. When you pour water over the skittles the coloured coating dissolves spreading through the water. The colour and sugar dissolve into the water and then diffuse through the water, making it the colour of the skittle.
EXTENSION IDEASCan you time how long the colours take to reach the centre of the plate using cold and warm water? Which do you think will be faster?Try using other sweets, can you find any that work as well as skittles?
Remember to read your level book and practice your phonics.
Have a fantastic day Year One!
